BYBA Classic / Competitive Team Information 2018-2019

The Banks Youth Basketball Association and Banks High School Basketball coaching staffs will be forming 5th through 8th grade girls and boys Classic (competitive) teams.

The following information will help answer questions you may have.

Tryout dates: (Closed tryouts, parents will not be allowed in gym during tryouts.)

  • Girls: Tuesday, Oct. 30, 4:00-5:30 (5th/6th), 6:00-7:30 (7th/8th) - BMS Gym
  • Boys: Thursday, Nov. 1, 4:00-5:30 (5th/6th), 6:00-7:30 (7th/8th) - BHS Gym

Tryouts will take place in the Banks Middle School and High School Gyms.

Who may tryout for Classic Teams? Tryouts are open to all 4th through 8th graders. Note: 4th graders will be placed on a 5th grade team only if there are not enough 5th graders trying out.

Who will choose the teams? The high school head basketball coaches are in charge of this process and how it will be organized and run.

What is the cost? New player cost is $160 + $30 new uniform charge. Returning players cost is $160, this does not include a uniform. If you are a returning player and you need a uniform, you can purchase a jersey for $35 and/or shorts for $20. We suggest you check with friends and family for outgrown and no longer needed uniforms to keep costs down. PLEASE NOTE: All uniform fees will be collected at the parents meeting before the season starts. No uniform fees are collected when you register online.

Who will coach? Coaches need to apply online at Final coaching decisions will be made by the Banks High School basketball coaches and the BYBA Board.

Commitment level? These teams will play competitive basketball against other classic teams. Therefore, we want players who are committed to working hard, striving to improve, and are team oriented.  Players will be expected to attend all practices and games/tournaments.

Practice times? Classic teams will most likely practice 3-4 nights a week. Times wil be determined by coaches and gym availability. Flexibility is a must. Once placed on a team, your coach will contact you with practice times.

Games/Tournaments? Teams will participate in several tournaments during the season*. These tournaments occur on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and will be in the greater Portland area and as far away as Seaside and Bend. There may also be occasional pick-up or practice games at various times. Dates and times of games and tournaments will come at a later date. Again flexibilty is a must.

* In the past, competittive teams have participated in the Hillsboro league with weekday games as well as tournaments. The Hillsboro league has been discontinued and we are looking into options to add games during the week in Banks.
